First day sessions at Collaborate 2006

Posted in: Technical Track

I got in today and missed the General session … because I did not get here in time and still had to register. . . . It is great that the conference is providing transportation from offsite hotels to conference, but there is no schedule and you never know when they are going to show up.

I started the morning with an Oracle session on RAC. It was a two-part session and I did not have the patience to wait out the first half. It was on best practices and I was looking for something more technical.

I enjoyed Craig Shallahamer’s session on performance forecasting. It was something I had not really spent any time doing before and can see it would be quite useful. The math and approach was really simple to follow. Nice stuff!

I was fortunate to join Michael Abbey on his session “Database Administration for the non – Oracle DBA”. It was a lot of fun to participate and we had lots of good questions from the attendees.

The rest of the afternoon was spent to attending Madhu Tumma’s ASM session (another two part session). It was good stuff and I am going to try playing with ASM when I get back home.
