Partying and Presenting at Oracle OpenWorld 2012

Posted in: Technical Track
I’ve been attending OOW every year since I moved to San Francisco in 2007. I always enjoy the event – great speakers, parties, crowds, old friends, new product announcements… I like the excitement.
This year, the event is particularly exciting for me: For the first time, I’m attending as a speaker and not just as an attendee. I’ll be speaking quite a bit actually and will cover a rather diverse list of topics.
What will my week look like?
Starting the week early, I give two half-presentations on ODTUG Sunday for developers and the DBAs who love them:
Flexible Design and Modeling: Planning for Constant Change, with Robyn Sands.
9:15 – 10:00 @ Moscone West – 2009
and
Value-Based Testing with Dan Norris
12:30 – 13:15 @ Moscone West – 2009

Then, on Tuesday, I am meeting with IOUG Big Data SIG. It’s a group for Oracle professionals who are interested in Big Data and the technologies associated with it, such as Hadoop. If you are curious or skeptical about Big Data, you are invited. We’ll socialize, network, brainstorm SIG activities for the year, and share our Big Data stories.
Big Data SIG
8:45 – 9:45 @ Moscone West Level 3, Overlook 3
Tuesday is a busy day for me. Later in the day, I will be speaking at Oaktable World, a free conference-next-to-a-conference and a wonderful opportunity to hear top presenters in a somewhat more causal setting than the big show:
Big Disasters – Learn How to Fail from The Experts
13:00 – 13:50 @  Creativity Museum near the intersection of 4th and Howard
On Wednesday, I will give my favorite presentation and teach everyone why and how they will integrate Hadoop into their data warehouse. If you have to pick just one of my presentations, this will be the best pick:
Building an Integrated Data Warehouse with Oracle Database and Hadoop
10:15 – 11:15 @ Moscone West – 3014
With all my presentations behind me, I’ll be partying hard on Wednesday evening at the Blogger Meetup. I blog so little these days I barely qualify, but I know the organizers, and they are nice enough to let me in.
