IOUG: Under The Hood of Oracle Clusterware 2.0–Grid Infrastructure | S316189 (Database) | Alex Gorbachev | Sunday, 13:30pm | [UG] Moscone West L2, Rm 2001 | This presentation examines the internals of Oracle Clusterware to provide cluster administrators with a clear path for troubleshooting common issues based on understanding all components, their role, and their interactions, and the reasons behind implementing this solution. It also introduces the Oracle grid infrastructure that arrived with Oracle Database 11g Release 2. It explains what improvements were made and why they were needed. You will find out that the grid infrastructure has been seriously redesigned to enhance stability, manageability, and flexibility as well as data safety. Learn how to get the most out of Oracle’s grid infrastructure. |
Implementing Oracle Exadata: A Case Study | S316157 (Database) | Marc Fielding | Monday, 12:30pm | [CS] Moscone South, Rm 208 | In this session, LinkShare’s Mike Aldrich and Pythian offer a real-world example of migrating to a geographically distributed Oracle Exadata V2/Oracle Database Machine environment and the strategy for success, from planning through execution. Learn the significant business and performance advantages of the integrated Oracle Database Machine/Oracle Exadata technology, including reduced costs, shorter deployment time, superior performance, increased functionality, and streamlined support. Experiences with hybrid columnar compression, integrating real-time data updates from multiple sources, performance tuning, and 24/7/365 high availability are discussed, with pitfalls to avoid and best practices. |
How-To: Implement Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) Successfully | S315988 (Database) | Alex Gorbachev | Thursday, 9:00am | [CS] Moscone South, Rm 308 | Oracle Automatic Storage Management has been one of the most successful new features since Oracle Database 10g, but migrating data to another storage platform represents several challenges and Oracle Automatic Storage Management adds new flavors to DBA responsibilities. If you are evaluating this technology or are on the migration path, this session will help you plan your migration without having to discover Oracle Automatic Storage Management from scratch and will answer many questions such as • What software do I install before I can use ASM? • Is ASM a free product? • Should I use ASM mirroring or hardware mirroring? • What is the best striping to use with ASM? |
When Oracle Databases Meet the Cloud, It Might Rain | S316417 (Database) | Alex Gorbachev | Thursday, 15:00pm | [CS] Moscone South, Rm 307 | With all the cloud computing hype, Oracle Database technologists are seriously considering infrastructure as a service( IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) vendors for their database needs. In this session, learn how you can leverage cloud computing offerings with Oracle databases and see whether it’s easy to host Oracle databases in the cloud. Can they perform well? What are the licensing implications? You will see that cloud hosting isn’t always cost-efficient for running the whole Oracle database, but even then, there are several very effective ways to offload some database components such as offsite backups, disaster recovery options, external SecureFiles storage, and data archiving. |
If you’d like to meet formally with any of our speakers or Pythian team before or after a session send a note to [email protected] and we’ll set aside time for you.
Date, time and location for the annual bloggers’ meetup will be announced by Alex Gorbachev/Oracle ACE Directors shortly. Remember the fun had last year?
