PYTHIAN ORACLE OPENWORLD 2011 SPEAKING SESSIONS

Session Title Track Type Speaker Date/Time Location Abstract
IOUG: Manage Referential Integrity Before It Manages You Database – Performance and Scalability User Group Forum (Sunday Only) Michael Abbey Sunday, October 2, 2011, 10:15am – 1 Hour Moscone West Lvl 2, Rm 2006 This presentation guides you through the data dictionary and provides some assistance for when you are confronted with an assortment of ORA- errors related to violation of referential integrity (RI) constraints. Until the DBA and developer know their way around the crucial data dictionary tables that hold RI information, these pesky items can confound even the most seasoned Oracle professionals. With successive releases of Oracle Database, Oracle has made the contents of the two central views related to RI more useful. You will learn about RI information and where it is stored in the data dictionary, best practices for establishing RI, foreign key constraints setup, saving the data definition language (DDL) that sets up constraints, and how to manipulate these constraints.
How Oracle GoldenGate Helps a Company Reach Zero Downtime for Application Releases Applications – Applications Strategy Conference Session Shervin Sheidaei Monday, October 3, 2011, 2:00pm – 1 Hour Moscone West Lvl 2, Rm 2003

In a fast-paced environment, regular application releases to bring out new features and resolve existing bugs are inevitable. On the other hand, an application’s continuous availability is very critical.

This session shows how a client with Oracle GoldenGate can apply application releases, which may have any database changes such as DML/DDL or code changes, while online users see no interruption. This capability helps make it possible to test the new release with the production database before its final release to users, in parallel with online users’ activities.

How Oracle GoldenGate Breaks Scalability Barriers at Western Union Middleware – Data Integration Conference Session – Case Study

Ron Mashrouteh

and

Shervin Sheidaei

Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 11:30am – 1 Hour Intercontinental, Sutter As Western Union’s business rapidly grew, its POS application couldn’t handle increased transaction loads and the response time didn’t meet set SLAs. Western Union needed a new application infrastructure that could linearly scale with the rapidly growing business. The old distributed system relying on Oracle Advanced Replication couldn’t keep up with growing data volumes, and the replication lag was unacceptable. Oracle GoldenGate made it possible to provide real-time access to up-to-date information to all users and ensure data consistency. Oracle GoldenGate not only solved scalability and performance problems but also made it possible to adapt to zero-downtime application releases that used to require several-hour outage windows two or three times per month. Learn more in this session.
Under the Hood of Oracle Automatic Storage Management: Fault Tolerance Database – Storage Management Conference Session Alex Gorbachev Thursday, October 6, 2011, 3:00pm – 1 Hour Moscone South, Rm 236 Oracle Automatic Storage Management has introduced a new concept of mirroring that is implemented differently than in any known RAID levels. So what happens when not one but two or more disks fail? Is such a situation hypothetical and highly unlikely? This session will help attendees evaluate the data loss risks and adopt the best Oracle Automatic Storage Management configuration according to their risk profile. For a better understanding of Oracle Automatic Storage Management reliability features, the presentation peeks under the hood of Oracle Automatic Storage Management and provides live demos simulating Oracle Automatic Storage Management disk failures and its handling of such failures.
