Pythian Speaking in the UK

Posted in: Technical Track

If you’re like me and are a DBA in the UK with a penchant for MySQL or Oracle, you’ll know we have a smörgåsbord of conferences here next week. We’ve been waiting, and like buses, two have come at once. We have the UK Oracle User Group Conference 2012, in Birmingham on 3rd – 5th December 2012, and the Percona Live London MySQL Conference running on 3rd – 4th December.

Pythian will be speaking at both events.

I’ll be talking at Percona Live with my former Nokia and fellow Pythian colleague Andrew Moore. We’ll be presenting a session about MySQL replication and the impact of the new replication features coming in 5.6. We both attended the Percona Live London last year. It was a well attended event and had some excellent talks, and we’re looking forward to another great event this year! If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late. You can register here, and by entering the “Come2mytalk” promotional code, you can get a 40% discount.

Alas, we’re unable to be in two places at once, so we won’t be attending the UK Oracle User Group Conference. But fear not, there are a few Pythian speakers attending who should more than make up for our absence.

Oracle ACE Director and Oak Table member, Alex Gorbachev, will be presenting two talks, as will Oracle ACE Christo Kutrovsky and Pythian’s latest Oracle ACE, Michael Abbey. They will be in good company with two more of Pythian’s UK based DBAs, Luke Davies and Paul Logan, who will also be presenting a session each.

6-Node Active-Active Oracle GoldenGate: Experiences and Lessons Learned, (Luke Davies, 04/12/2012, 15:10 – 15:55).
Do it Right – Do It Once; A Roadmap to Maintenance Windows, (Michael Abbey, 05/12/2012, 08:50 – 10:50).
Applying Traditional DBA Skills to Oracle Exadata, (Paul Logan, 05/12/2012, 11:15 – 12:00).
Exadata Datawarehousing: Leveraging Parallel Query, (Christo Kutrovsky, 05/12/2012, 13:55 – 14:40).

The event will also be attended by Pythian founder Paul Vallée who will be there to meet with old friends and make new ones – for anyone who wants to reach out to him, do so @paulvallee. Pythian’s Director of Business Development, Vanessa Simmons, will be there looking for new Pythian partners in the region.

If all of this isn’t enough to sate your conference appetite, the NoSQL Roadshow hits London on 6th December, 2012. All in all, next week is an awesome week to be a DBA in the UK.
