Interestingly, the worldwide market for RDBMS (relational database management systems) grew by 11.6% in 2004. The top five RDBMS vendors stayed the same with Oracle taking 41.3 percent of the market, followed by IBM at 30.6 percent and Microsoft at 13.4 percent. Sysbase and NCR Teradata round out the group with 3.1 percent of the market share each. Although some fared better than others, all of the top five vendors saw an increase in their database business in 2004.
