Why do people hate Oracle?

Philip Howard of Bloor Research examines why Oracle seems to be a universal target for its competitors. Howard feels that rivals see areas of vulnerability at Oracle (IBM is targeting security and lock-in, while Microsoft and CA are focusing on ownership costs), but that this is only part of the picture.

According to Howard, Oracle may be a target simply because of its size, specifically the size of the 10g database. While the all-encompassing nature of 10g may work for some, others may feel smothered by it—much as they would by a controlling government. The desire for a “freer environment” could make certain users eager to shift to a competitor. read article.
